About this role

To enhance the search capabilities of Elasticsearch, the full-time Principal Software Engineer will lead initiatives focused on developing new search features, improving relevance, and resolving bugs while collaborating with a globally distributed team. Key responsibilities Lead the development of industry-leading search engine features, ensuring speed and relevance in search results Contribute to the codebase by building new features and addressing bugs, while simplifying code understandability Collaborate with community members and engineers worldwide on search relevance improvements and issue resolution Required qualifications Professional experience with search and vector databases, including algorithms like HNSW and IVF Strong proficiency in core Java and familiarity with data structures and concurrency constructs Ability to work autonomously, managing projects from design to implementation Experience with various data storage technologies such as Elasticsearch, Solr, and PostgreSQL Proven track record of leveraging AI to optimize code and debug complex systems
