You must meet the Specialized Experience to qualify for the Deputy Director position, as described below. To qualify for this position, your application and resume must clearly show that you possess the experience and/or education requirements as defined below. If qualifying based on experience, be sure these types of examples are evident in your resume. For GS-15: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-14 in the Federal Service.

Specialized Experience is the experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience for this position includes: Working knowledge and familiarity of the Mine Act and MSHA implementing regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines; Demonstrated skill in the development and technical writing of regulations and policies; Experience in developing and advising on regulatory projects; Experience preparing, reviewing and analyzing correspondence and documents such as: draft regulations, specialized policy papers or analytical reports and issue papers; Experience providing advice and procedural direction to senior management officials; and Knowledge of management and leadership principles with experience planning, assigning, and evaluating the work of subordinates.
