EDUCATIONAL TECHNICIAN (OA)

About this role

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions for the GS-1702, Education and Training Technician Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: FOR INTERNAL CANDIDATES: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems.

Examples of specialized experience include Detailed knowledge and understanding of overall education program regulations, requirements and procedures and skill in applying this knowledge and understanding in a wide variety of situations relating to the performance of substantive tasks in support of the overall program; skill in interviewing persons to obtain facts and determine relevant information needed to explain various program requirements, prerequisites, fees, etc; to provide advice regarding appropriate action to take based on information provided; and/or solve routine problems; knowledge of the format, content, and uses of educational program records both electronic and written to independently process educational/military transactions; knowledge of collecting information, tabulating data and preparing and tracking tuition assistance expenditures; knowledge of various office automation software processing procedures and function keys and the similarities and differences among software types to produce a wide range of documents, such as graphics or tables within text, to· edit and reformat electronic drafts, and to update and revise existing databases or spreadsheets.

A fully qualified typist is required. A fully qualified typist is required. OR EDUCATION: 1 year of graduate-level education from an accredited college or university which is directly related to the work of the position. NOTE: you must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of graduate-level education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR INTERNAL CANDIDATES GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1.

Knowledge of a variety of educational programs and opportunities. 2. Skill in interviewing and advising people or enrollees to establish educational and occupational objectives. 3. Knowledge of tuition assistance program as well as a range of other sources, types and methods of funding. 4. Knowledge of a variety of budgetary methods, practices, regulations and precedents, including skill in the application of procedures, methods and techniques which support the analysis and administration of the budget.

5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 6. Knowledge of military and education testing procedures. Knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. A qualified typist is required. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
