About this role

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/28/2026. You must meet the Basic Requirements (IOR), Specialized Experience, and Selective Placement Factors to qualify for this series as described below. Individual Occupational Requirements This series covers technical positions supervising, leading, or performing work involving applying a practical knowledge of the: methods and techniques of engineering or architecture; and construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials.

Specialized Experience for GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-11 level in supporting electrical power and mechanical cooling installations, removals, and coordinated testing projects by providing technical expertise in multiple specialties or multiple complex areas to sustain operational readiness related to the critical facility infrastructures. -OR- Certification: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies.

-AND- Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the basic qualifications described above, you must also meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: Experience applying qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques to resolve a broad range of problems and the ability to analyze, select, and adapt appropriate methods from a wide range of alternatives to assess unusual circumstances.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment along with the beginning and end dates.
