Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Experience Requirements: GS-09 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes meeting two of the following: 1) Make technical recommendations based upon preliminary engineering data interpretation and/or test results; 2) prepare drawings or reports utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) software; 3) identify technical, civil/site design, and/or survey problems inherent in engineering assignments; 4) Assist engineers in the preparation of project plans, specifications, cost estimates, and/or schedules; and 5) provide design analyses for civil works projects such as; flood control, ecosystem, restoration, and/or emergency operation projects.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). GS-10 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes meeting three of the following: 1) Make technical recommendations based upon preliminary engineering data interpretation and/or test results; 2) prepare drawings or reports utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD) software; 3) identify technical, civil/site design, and/or survey problems inherent in engineering assignments; 4) Assist engineers in the preparation of project plans, specifications, cost estimates, and/or schedules; and 5) provide design analyses for civil works projects such as; flood control, ecosystem, restoration, and/or emergency operation projects.
