Finance Engineer
About this role
ABOUT THE ROLE We're a Series A/B EdTech company building an AI-powered peer learning platform used by tens of millions of students worldwide. Our finance function is lean, high-impact, and scaling fast — and we're looking for a Finance Engineer who is equal parts operator and builder. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance & People, you'll be a true force multiplier: running financial processes end-to-end, driving automation, and helping architect the digital finance backbone that will power our next stage of growth.
This is an on-site role based in Berlin, Germany. Please note: visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Fluency in German and English is required. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Act as a strategic right hand to the Director of Finance & People — prepare decision briefs, run cross-functional initiatives, and serve as a sparring partner to the management team. - Own and manage key financial processes including monthly, quarterly, and annual close; coordinate with external auditors across multiple jurisdictions.
- Ensure continuity and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining compliance with German accounting standards (HGB) and IFRS. - Drive operational controlling: budget planning, financial forecasting, and liquidity management. - Build and deliver monthly financial reporting; conduct data-driven analysis to inform growth and investment decisions. - Identify and implement automation opportunities across finance workflows using AI tools, low-code platforms, and smart integrations.
- Support financial modeling for growth and innovation projects. - Manage relationships with external advisors — tax, audit, and legal providers across jurisdictions. - Serve as the key link between Finance & People and other functions including Growth and Engineering. - Help build a scalable digital finance foundation: intelligent dashboards, predictive KPIs, and ERP/treasury architecture. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Required: - 1–3 years of finance experience, ideally from a Big 4 advisory firm or a high-growth startup (or both).
- Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field from a strong university. - Strong analytical mindset with advanced Excel proficiency. - Hands-on experience with FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, controlling, and liquidity management. - Solid knowledge of German accounting (HGB) and familiarity with IFRS. - Experience using AI tools to automate and improve finance workflows. - Fluent in both German and English (written and spoken).
- Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable operating at pace in a startup environment. - Strong cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management skills. - A genuine builder mindset with a focus on process improvement and automation. Nice to Have: - Familiarity with BI tools (e.g. Looker, Power BI, Metabase) or low-code platforms. - Experience working across multiple legal jurisdictions. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS - Salary: €50,000 – €60,000 per year, depending on experience.
- High-ownership role with direct exposure to senior leadership and company strategy. - Opportunity to build finance infrastructure from the ground up at a globally scaling EdTech company. - Collaborative, international team environment in central Berlin. LOCATION This is a fully on-site role based in Berlin, Germany. Candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to Berlin. Visa sponsorship is not available.
