FIRE PROTECTION SPECIALIST
About this role
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Maintaining Fire protection/prevention programs to ensure all required training and certifications remain current and up-to-date; 2) Developing, implementing and providing training (both classroom and live scenario) in fire protection and prevention techniques; 3) Developing lesson plans, handouts, written examinations and training aids for firefighting/prevention procedures; And 4) Evaluating Firefighting and prevention techniques to determine effectiveness of training courses for firefighting systems.
NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position. ***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Service Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Materials Incident Command, and Airport Firefighter. Also must possess a valid, current National Registry (NREMT) to at least Basic Life Support level (EMT-B). These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement.

Copies of Certifications MUST be submitted with your application.*** The following education/training is HIGHLY DESIRABLE BUT NOT REQUIRED; Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Health and Safety Officer, Incident Safety Officer, Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course Instructor (EVOC-I), Confined Space Instructor, CFAI Accreditation Manager, and CPR Instructor.
Required to obtain Health and Safety Officer certification within 12 months of hire. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The Assistant Chief of Training & Safety duty hours are established at 56 hours weekly. The duty hours may change while assuming the duties of a 72-hour position. Incumbent is subject to emergency recall during off duty hours regardless of the time of day or inclement weather conditions. This commitment to duty can greatly affect the incumbents use of personal time and off duty activities in order to provide NSA Souda Bay with the appropriate level of life, environment, and property protection management authority.
Incumbent must be physically capable of performing and supervising firefighting functions during adverse weather conditions, hazardous and related conditions for extended periods of time. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be prepared to work long arduous hours, not limited to office environments, when required. Requires work be performed at scene of emergency operations in all types of adverse conditions with possibility of extended exposure to elements.
Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous emergency scenes including aircraft, structural and wildland fire incidents along with exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals and radiation, confined spaces and various rescue incidents. Incumbent must be in sound physical and mental condition to perform in high stress situations. Required to maintain satisfactory physical fitness. Required to wear a respirator or self-contained breathing apparatus.
Must pass annual firefighters physical examination. Must be capable of analytical reasoning, sound judgment and decisiveness during highly dangerous, stressful and irregular operations involving threat to life, environment and property. Incumbent is required to pass an annual fitness test and physical in accordance with NFPA 1582. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
