Basic Requirement: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.

This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience for the GS-11: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service.

This experience includes implementing and overseeing infection control plans, policies, and procedures within a hospital and clinical environment to ensure compliance with established regulatory and accreditation standards. Monitored, analyzed, and reported infection control data and documentation, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to federal, state, and organizational requirements. Advised clinical staff, management, and multidisciplinary teams on infection prevention strategies, providing guidance on best practices, mitigation measures, and corrective actions to reduce risk and support a safe patient-care environment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education for the GS-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Infection Prevention and Control, Patient Safety, Microbiology or similar type degree.

OR Combination of Education and Experience for the GS-11: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18.
