Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Must have experience with installing and configuring firewalls (i.e., Cisco, Juniper, McAfee, or equivalent) and network operating systems (i.e., Windows Server, virtualization software (e.g., VMware), Unix, z/OS, or equivalent). Must have experience working with Storage Area, Local Area, and Wide Area networks (i.e., setting up, providing technical support, and/or maintaining networks). Must have experience using database query languages (i.e., Structured Query Language-SQL, Data Manipulation Language-DML, or equivalent) to communicate with database management systems.
Must have experience applying attention to detail, such as testing networks and relevant systems by applying multiple test scenarios and documenting results. Must have experience providing customer service, such as assisting both internal and external customers, assessing customers' needs, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction. Must have experience communicating complex network issues to customers or field technicians in remote locations; providing training to newer field technicians; and making recommendations on hardware upgrades.
Must have experience solving problems by monitoring network traffic and patterns, documenting network latency problems, identifying the source of the problem, and developing feasible approaches to resolve the issue. **NOTE: Those qualified applicants who meet both the minimum qualification requirement(s) and highly preferred criteria(s) will be considered best qualified for this position and will be referred to the selecting official(s) first for consideration.
