MATERIALS ENGINEER

About this role

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Experience in materials engineering, metallurgy, and/or welding engineering to include analyzing and certifying welding procedures, evaluating material compatibility, and applying technical standards to the repair and fabrication of complex systems to comply both military (NAVSEA, MIL-STD) and commercial/international (e.g., ISO, EN, DIN) standards.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting senior engineers in reviewing and developing welding procedure specifications (WPSs) and procedure qualification records (PQRs); 2) Performing less complex metallurgical analyses and material equivalency evaluations under supervision; 3) Applying technical publications (i.e.

NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248) and other relevant military standards to material engineering; 4) Supporting the disposition of non-conforming materials and participating in failure analysis investigations. 5) Drafting correspondence, reports, and repair plans for review by a senior engineer.
