MECHANICAL ENGINEER TECHNICIAN

About this role

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band (NR-02) or GS equivalent (GS- 5/8) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Designing required fixtures required to modify and repair existing parts; 2) Interpreting mechanical drawings produced in accordance with regulations; and 3) Analyzing component designs and suggests modifications to improve functionality, performance, and to meet program cost and schedule goals.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower pay band (NR-03) or GS equivalent (GS- 9/10) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Designing and developing inspection methods and fixtures; 2) Developing cost and schedule estimates for work completed in a machine shop; 3) Modifying standard practices and adapting specialized equipment to solve a variety of spacecraft assembly and fabrication problems; and 4) Reporting hardware anomalies, proposing solutions, and performing corrective actions during the course of assembly and integration.

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: NR 03: This position requires extensive, direct, hands-on experience with scientific and/or space flight hardware fabrication using CNC machines and the FeatureCam software, preventative maintenance, analyze component designs and suggest modifications to improve functionality, performance, and meet program cost and schedule, develop cost and schedule estimates for machine shop work, assembly, and integration; inspection of space flight hardware critical dimensions various hand measurement devices, and daily operations of the machine shop.

The incumbent is responsible for providing training and safety instructions on operating the machines to junior engineers and technicians.
