PRIMARY PREVENTION SPECIALIST (PREV WF)
About this role
BASIC REQUIREMENTS You must possess one of the following: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field that included at least 24 semester hours of course work in the behavioral or social sciences.
OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: To qualify using education as a basis of qualifications you must submit a copy of your transcripts. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION is experience/education which is directly related to the position to be filled and which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.
To qualify for this position, you must meet the Specialized Experience, Education, or a combination of both as described below: Specialized Experience - Must have at least 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-09. Experience, education or training analyzing problems, identifying significant factors, gathering pertinent data and recognizing solutions; preparing reports, plans, policies and various correspondence; evaluating objectives and develop plans to facilitate the availability and effective utilization of various social science resources.
Must have knowledge of the organization and its mission and utilized the organizational staff procedures. Experience applying analytical and evaluative techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of social science program operations carried out by administrative or professional personnel, or substantive administrative support functions. Delivers initial prevention activities, averting harm or abuse before it occurs.
Identifies risk and protective factors that lead to or protect against unhealthy or unsafe behaviors. Supports inter- and intra-personal violence prevention efforts and programming through the leadership advisory committees, boards and working groups. OR Education - Possess a Ph.D, an equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. NOTE: In order to be considered for this position using education as a basis of qualification, you must submit a copy of your transcripts.
OR Combination - A combination of Specialized Experience and Education as described above. Only graduate education in excess of that required for a Master's degree or equivalent may be used when combining education and experience to meet the total qualification requirements. NOTE: In order to qualify for this position using a combination of experience and education, you must submit a copy of your transcripts. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Resume must have complete dates and hours worked per week for each occurrence of both civilian and military employment (Example: 2 JAN 1980 to 3 MAR 1981; 0800-1630 M-F or JAN 1980 to MAR 1981; 40 hrs/wk) Use of year only will result in disqualification.

Your record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position: - Knowledge in primary prevention, public health, organizational wellness, behavioral science, or related fields.
- Knowledge of social-ecological systems theory - Knowledge and experience in the organization, management, and administration of programs and services to participate in program planning- Skill in development and maintenance of public understanding and sound working relationships with local and community agencies - Skill in applying professional community organization abilities related to the formulation of needs assessments, development of prevention programs, and the marketing of programs - Knowledge of complex helping systems and professional organizations, how they positively or negatively affect individual and family welfare, and the multiple ways these systems and organizations operate to deliver services - Excellent skills in oral and written communication to include report writing and maintaining proper records to document services provided- Knowledge of and skill in planning, conducting and evaluating Primary Prevention training programs -Knowledge of the regulations, policies, and precedents that are used for developing the action plans to implement approved prevention strategies - Ability to plan and adequately support the needs of National Guard members by determining what the future needs of the Service Member are through the interpretation and analysis of studies, and trends -Knowledge of policies and requirements for the development and analysis of the Prevention Programs efforts in order to integrate effective prevention measures -Knowledge of automated data systems to maintain information - Knowledge of analytical techniques to identify, analyze and/or recommend solutions to problems encountered and to develop Statistical data and narrative reports
