The Process Technician will be responsible for the fabrication of optical components and devices in a clean room environment utilizing equipment and executing production processes. Although the location of the position is in Columbia, SC, it may be required to travel to various locations including other Thorlabs entities and customer/vendor locations.

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to: Read and follow work instructions. • Execute processes utilizing various production technologies including: Photolithographic patterning of various substrates. Wet chemical etching. High vacuum coating and dry etching processes. Chemical and mechanical cleaning and drying processes. Mechanical machining and dicing processes for metal, glass, and polymers.

Laser marking and machining processes for metal, glass, and polymers. Monitor process performance and process outcomes to identify areas for improvement. Maintain a clean, organized work area. Confidently and safely work with hazardous energies and materials. Operate and monitor automated processing tools and equipment. Perform quality inspections and testing (requires good vision and microscope use) Ensure product meets documented quality specifications and recognize when product is out of compliance.

Perform periodic calibration and validation on process and metrology equipment. Maintain inventory of raw materials and components. Execute projects assigned by supervisor as required In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, the position is also responsible for: • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.

• Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments. • Employees will work in a cleanroom environment and must wear appropriate cleanroom attire and required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment). The Company retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Requirements Physical Activities: Work may be active, could stand or sit for long durations and/or perform repetitious work at times.

The employee may lift or move objects up to 20 pounds. Employees must grasp, manipulate, or assemble parts and components that are often very small. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, may be noisy at times. Must be able to wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment such as but not limited to masks, glasses, gloves, and specialty garments. The required PPE and training allow for the safe handling and processing of chemicals like adhesives, lubricants and solvents, and safe operation of job-related equipment and tools.

Qualifications: Experience: • Minimum 1 year of manufacturing experience or related technical education. • Experience with lab safety and hygiene preferred Education: • High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate’s degree preferred in optics, physical science, or engineering discipline. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: • Position requires basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills • Must possess good written and oral communication skills.

• Must be comfortable working with computers and familiar with Microsoft Office. • Must successfully complete company’s training program to include completion of various levels of health and safety training. • Must be able to function in a diverse team environment • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, completing tasks correctly and on time Other: • Travel of less than 10% The hourly rate for this position is USD 20.00 - USD 22.00 D.O.E.
