Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls within a centralized public safety communications center using established procedures; 2) Operating emergency communications and computer-aided dispatch equipment to assist with dispatching public safety resources; and 3) Monitoring field unit response to relay incident updates to callers and/or responding public safety personnel.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the Federal service (GS-05). GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 11) Answering emergency and non-emergency calls within a centralized public safety communications center; 2) determining the level of emergency to dispatch appropriate police, fire or emergency medical assets using computer-aided dispatch capabilities; and 3) assisting with performing crisis intervention with distraught callers.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the Federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
