Senior Backend Engineer

Munich

About this role

ABOUT THE ROLE This is a senior backend engineering role at an early-stage, Y Combinator–backed AI supply chain startup focused on the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) sector. You'll join a small, fast-moving engineering team in Munich to own the backend systems that power an AI-driven supply chain manager — turning the messy, real-world flow of physical goods into programmable, reliable, and scalable software. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Design and implement backend systems that drive AI-powered supply chain planning and execution decisions.

- Architect data models and pipelines to ingest and organize complex, unstructured real-world data. - Ensure user requests and supply chain plans are processed in real time with high reliability. - Build scalable, high-performance SQL queries and data access patterns across large datasets. - Ship production-grade services using modern backend frameworks and testing best practices. - Collaborate closely with the core product and engineering team to translate logistics operations into software.

- Operate and improve deployment and runbook processes to maintain 24/7 system uptime. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer with a strong track record of shipping real products. - Hands-on proficiency with Python and modern backend frameworks such as FastAPI, and testing tools like pytest. - Strong SQL skills, including writing high-performance queries over millions of data points. - Experience designing scalable data architectures and owning backend systems end-to-end, including real-time request processing.

- Comfort managing and organizing messy, unstructured real-world data at scale. - Experience with AI-assisted code generation and management tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex), including parallelizing instances for continuous operation. - Solid system design instincts with the ability to work autonomously and make sound engineering trade-offs. - Familiarity with unstructured data ingestion systems, DevOps practices, and AWS.

- Exposure to frontend frameworks and their testing is a plus. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Salary range: $110,000 – $200,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is available. LOCATION On-site in Munich, Germany.
